A recent collage I made that’s now for sale in my etsy shop as a giclee print.
PAINTING
VERNIS
After working on some collage pieces, I had a section of a transparency left over – the top of a woman’s head. I pasted it to a piece of watercolor paper then painted in a face to complete the head. The word “vernis” was stamped on using an old metal French stamp I had gotten at a flea market. Just a silly, but fun, exercise.
ACCELERATEUR
I have finally been spending more time in the studio, happily sorting through all the paper and images that I’ve accumulated, cutting, assembling, painting, drawing. Here’s one collage I worked on and finished this week that will be available in the etsy shop — http://www.etsy.com/shop/fadedpaisley — after November 3rd.
It’s 6 inches by 6 inches square, painted with acrylic and collaged with old letters, book pages and digital images.
BACK IN THE ART ROOM
It has been way too long since I’ve stepped foot in my art room. I have been working in my sketchbooks, but just haven’t been able to do anything more concrete. I know there are those who would say sketching is productive, and it surely is. And I have been creative in other ways-cooking, gardening, photographing, crocheting a couple of hats and scarves and pin-y sort of things.
One reason I’ve avoided the art room is the mess it’s become and my lack of desire to straighten it up. It’s just the way I work-I’m not neat. Once I did a bit of tidying up, I was more inspired to do some painting and collage. Heaven knows I have enough art supplies, old books, little scraps and ephemera to keep me busy forever! Here’s a glimpse of different areas of the room and the drawers of STUFF I like to use in collage.
The piece below was actually done awhile ago, but I rediscovered it when I went through my folders. What other surprises are hidden in here?
iPAD PORTRAITS
I recently got an app for my iPad mini for drawing/painting. Of course, I had to get a stylus, as well. It was pretty clumsy going at first, as you can see by the first couple of samples. Even writing with it was tricky. But it became kind of addicting, once I got started. I kept adding layers to the faces on the bottom row (works in progress), trying to blend skin tones with the softer paint brush. I’m hardly a portraitist, but using this app is really helping me improve. Right now I’m just having fun with it. I guess I should mention the app is ArtStudio by Lucky Clan and it’s free!
