NOW FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT

It’s been a ridiculously long time that I’ve been away from this blog, but I’m going to give it another go. I’m still loving collage art, but I’ve also started doing some stitching. At the moment, I’m taking part in textile artist Anne Brooke’s #52tagshannemade challenge, which has been fun. Each week, Anne posts a theme as a prompt and we interpret it in our own way using fabric and notions that we already have at hand. And I have loads, mostly from my two grandmothers! These are my first 10 pieces.

COLLAGE WORK

The assignment for Week 5 of the online course was to make abstracts with tissue paper, either hand painted, or already colored.  I used both, since I had a stash of colored tissue already at hand. I love making abstract art, mostly non-representational, so this was an enjoyable project. These are the four that I posted.

COLLAGE COURSE

I’ve started an online collage course with Randel Plowman, an artist whose work I LOVE. Each week we get an assignment, so there will be no reason for me not to make art. For the next fifty-two weeks. Oh boy!

The project for the first week was to gather material, set a timer for five minutes, and make a collage. I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to only work for that short amount of time.

There is no shortage of scraps in boxes and bins, but arranging them quickly was an experience. It was something I really enjoyed and I think I will continue to do this as a warm-up.

Our second week’s project was to make monotone collages, so there are four different works, in red, blue, green and yellow. No time limit for this one, but maybe there should’ve been. I pondered over these way too much.

WELL…

It probably appeared as though I had vanished from the blogging world, and I will just say that I was distracted by other things.  Namely, knitting.  It’s become my new obsession.  But I want to get back to drawing, collaging and painting, so I thought the best way to keep myself on track was to reboot my blog.  I’m going to try.

I did this gelli-printed piece to give an artist friend.  We’re always talking about all the supplies and messes we have in our workrooms and this sentiment is perfect!
